New Delhi, October 28 (IANS). Many times people remain ill for a long time even after Covid-19. According to a study, this is also common after other respiratory diseases.
Researchers at Oxford University, UK, studied data from 1,90,000 participants. For this study he divided people into groups. One group was of people hospitalized due to Covid. The second was of people hospitalized due to lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI).
Participants gave information about 45 physical and mental symptoms through the survey. These included symptoms related to ears, nose and throat, respiratory, nervous system, digestive system and muscles.
The findings, published in JAMA Network Open, showed that people hospitalized with Covid had a higher risk of 23 out of 45 symptoms. Similarly, among those hospitalized due to non-Covid LRTIs, the number was 18 out of 45.
According to researcher Dr. Junqing Shi, long-term effects after Covid are not new; This has also been seen in other serious respiratory infections. He said that Covid patients suffer more from symptoms like fatigue, difficulty in breathing and problems in concentration. Additionally, previous studies have also found symptoms such as loss of taste.
The study found that problems with thinking and communication were more common in Covid patients than in other respiratory infections. Dr. Junqing also said that we need to understand the long-term effects of other acute respiratory infections and analyze their causes. This information can be helpful in better health care planning and treatment.
