New Delhi, March 20 (IANS). An agreement has been reached between the National Mental Health and the Institute of Neurology (Nimhans) and the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), to improve the mental health of the defense personnel. The Ministry of Defense gave this information on Thursday.
Under this agreement, both institutions will conduct research together and run special training programs, so that defense personnel can get better mental health services. Cooperation between AFMS and Nimhans will focus on strengthening mental health services and conducting special training for medical personnel. This cooperation will develop new programs to understand and overcome the mental troubles of soldiers, naval, air force personnel and their families.
The main objective of this agreement is to promote mental health related research, faculty exchange and educational activities. Nimhans specializes in mental diseases and neurological, it will help in researching psychological problems of defense personnel such as stress, anxiety and depression.
Surgeon Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin said, “The mental health of our soldiers is as important as their physical health. With the help of Nimhans, we will ensure that our soldiers can face the challenges faced better during the service of the country.”
Dr. Pratima Murthy, director of Nimhans, said, “It is an honor for us to work with armed forces medical services to provide mental health services in the defense sector. Our aim is to ensure that the soldiers who protect the country get the best mental health services.”
This cooperation is an important step towards strengthening the mental health of the defense personnel and this is expected to promote more initiatives across the country. Both institutions are fully dedicated to provide extensive mental health services for the welfare of defense forces.
