New Delhi, 4 June (IANS). Two prestigious institutions of the country IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi have come together to promote Artificial Intelligence (AI) based innovation in the Healthcare area. For this, both institutions have made an important agreement. Under this agreement, the two institutions will jointly establish the Center of Excellence for Healthcare Artificial Intelligence.
IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi will jointly develop this center at a cost of Rs 330 crore. Its goal is to bring revolution in this field by connecting health services across the country and giving cheap and good treatment to people. Giving information in this regard on Wednesday, IIT Delhi said that for this an MoU AIIMS Delhi Director Prof. M. Srinivas and Director of IIT Delhi Prof. Rangan signed by Banerjee. For this, a special program was organized in the IIT Delhi campus. The purpose of this center is to develop artificial intelligence based solutions for the major health schemes and problems of the country.
It is noteworthy that last year, a grant of Rs 330 crore was provided by the Ministry of Education to both these institutions under the ‘Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India’ initiative. According to IIT Delhi, this Center of Excellence will be the main medium to execute this grant. On this occasion, Prof. M. Srinivas said, “This agreement is the beginning of far -reaching research in the field of healthcare in the country, which can change the direction of health services in the coming years.”
At the same time, Director of IIT Delhi Prof. Rangan Banerjee also expressed happiness over this partnership. He said, “This participation of AIIMS and IIT Delhi can make AI an impressive medium for cheap and accessible health services. We are happy that we are part of this National Center of Excellence.”
Dr. Kritika Rangarajan, who is leading the project from AIIMS Delhi, says that this initiative is an exciting step towards the combination of technology and health. Our priority is to develop such mechanisms, keeping the needs of the patients in the center, which can benefit every citizen of the country. Professor Chetan Arora from IIT Delhi will lead the project. He said that this Center based AI technology will act as a major research and resource center not only nationally but internationally. Our aim is to improve health services through indigenous AI systems, train health workers and ensure access to quality healthcare in remote and deprived areas.
Pro. Arora said that the partnership between IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi has been influential in the field of research earlier. He has expressed hope that this center will make this partnership a new global model, which will take research in the fields of healthcare and AI technology to new heights. According to the IIT, this Center of Excellence will not only symbolize the confluence of technology and medicine, but will also have a revolutionary step towards providing modern, inexpensive and accessible health services to the common citizens of the country.
