New Delhi, March 26 (IANS). Human trials on India’s first indigenously developed ‘MRI Machine System’ by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi are expected to start in October.
The 1.5 Tesla MRI system for medical imaging will be made under a National Mission Indigenous Magnetic Resonance Imaging (IMRI).
The mission has been sponsored by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) and is being implemented in the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER), an autonomous government institution under MEITY.
C-DAC (Trivandrum), C-DAC (Kolkata), IUAC (New Delhi) and DSI-MIRC (Bangalore) will work as associate agencies to design and develop MRI systems.
“Animal tests are over,” MEITY said.
Apart from this, it was further stated that RF Power Emplifier, High Power T/R Switch, RF Spectrometer, RF Coils, RX Front Ends, Control Unit, Couch and IMRI Software have been completed by sub-system development and testing of software and have been introduced with magnets, gradients and gradients.
R&D Group Co-ordinator of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Sunita Verma said, “India achieves a great success in developing affordable and indigenous health solutions, including medical devices to serve the next one billion people but also to serve the next one billion people.”
The MRI machine is part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SAMEER and AIIMS.
Under the MoU, the two institutions will jointly develop high-found/low field magnetic resonance imaging MRI/Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) system and promote research in radio frequency, microwave system and its connected areas for medical applications.
Dr. M. Srinivas, director of AIIMS, New Delhi, said, “It is important to showcase the country’s abilities and doctors should work with scientists to develop more and better medical equipment.”
