Sydney, 2 May (IANS). According to a study, a virus that has been considered scientifically bizarre for a long time can help fight dangerous bacteria.
The study focused on bacteriophage (phase). These are viruses that infect bacteria and come in many forms. In particular, researchers examined the telomer phase (a structure that is present in DNA chromosomes).
According to the report by the news agency Xinhua, these viruses are not only passive (passive) passengers, but they can help good bacteria to destroy bad bacteria.
Previous studies decoded only their DNA replication. A new study published in Science Advance has shown that telomer phase -carrying bacteria produce toxins that kill rival bacteria.
“During more than 20 years of intensive bacterial genomics it was found during more than 20 years of intensive bacterial genomics that Telomer Phase was hidden from our eyes. It is clear that we missed a full aspect of biology,” said Trevor Lithgo, head of the Monuch Biomedicin Discovery Institute Bacterial Cell Biology Lab.
Lithgo said that the fourth telomer phase was discovered by indexing the clinical Clebssiela Strain.
The researcher stated that analysis showed that Telomer Phase is not rare. These are highly prevalent of thousands of stretches in Clabsiela, including the strains collected from the waterway environment.
Lithgo said- In addition, the discovery of toxins – ‘tailosine’ (for telomer -phase toxins) – was found to be capable of forming a bacterial management strategy. The ‘Good’ bacteria carrying telomer phase will be able to kill the ‘Bad’ Clabciella with the ‘bad’ bacteria antibiotic-resistant clebs.
Sally Buyers from the Lithgo laboratory said, “Now we want to understand how the host secretes poison and also wants to understand how poison makes its access to unknown bacteria.”
The team believes that these helpful viruses can also be present in many other bacteria.
