Sydney, 11 February (IANS). A new study has found that people suffering from long covid and chronic fetigs (fatigue) may cause swelling in the brain, especially in the part that is associated with memory and focus.
The study was conducted by scientists at the University of Griffith, Australia, in which he used ultra-high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology. The purpose of this study was to understand how prolonged covid and myalgic encephalomyelitis – also known as chronic fatg syndrome (CFS) – uniformly affects the brain structure.
Research included 17 prolonged Kovid patients, 29 CFS patients and 15 healthy people. Researchers found that the size of the brain of the brain of people suffering from long -term Kovid and CFS was larger than a healthy people. Hippocampus is part that plays an important role in learning, memory and focusing.
Scientists also saw that inflammation of the hippocampus was directly related to the symptoms in patients. Kiran Thaphalia, the lead researcher of the study, said that patients may have problems with memory problems, difficulty in focusing and delay in response during interactions due to changes in the hippocampus.
He said that the cause of the large size of the hippocampus may be the formation of new cells in the brain or it may also be due to the effect of the virus. In addition, research also found that patients who had more hippocampus size had problems such as lack of concentration, sleep discomfort, pain and more fatigue.
Researchers believe that there are considerable similarities in the symptoms of long covid and CFS. For this reason, this study can prove to be helpful in finding possible treatment for both these conditions.
