New Delhi, 5 April (IANS). From today onwards, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is going to start officially in the national capital Delhi. Which is an important step towards increasing access to health services for the city’s weakest population.
The Delhi government will sign an MoU with the Central Government, which will strengthen the partnership to implement the scheme and provide health benefits to the poorest families.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed that the MoU will be signed on Saturday, which will provide the benefits of the health coverage of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to the residents of Delhi.
Gupta insisted that this initiative will increase the healthcare structure of the city, ensuring that the needy families get very important help.
Explain that this announcement was made after an important meeting chaired by CM Rekha Gupta on Friday, in which cabinet ministers and officials of Senior Health Department participated.
The decision to implement this scheme was appreciated as an important step towards improving public health services in the national capital.
Under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, eligible families in Delhi will get annual health coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh. This amount will be given Rs 5 lakh from the center and an additional Rs 5 lakh from the Delhi government as a top-up. The scheme guarantees free and cashless treatment for many medical services including 1,961 procedures, drugs, diagnosis, hospitalization, surgery and ICU care.
Currently, 91 hospitals including 46 private hospitals, 34 hospitals operated by the Delhi government and 11 centers run by the Center have been listed under the scheme to offer these services.
The initiative has been taken after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) approved the plan in Delhi after returning to power in February after a gap of 26 years. The scheme was approved in the first cabinet meeting after Chief Minister Gupta and his ministers took over on 20 February 2025.
