Let us tell you that the central government has abolished the age limit for Ayushman Yojana and has decided to provide health facilities up to Rs 5 lakh under the Ayushman Yojana to every senior citizen of 70 plus. Meaning, all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their socio-economic status, will be eligible to avail the benefits of this scheme.
The aim of expanding this facility is to benefit about 4.5 crore families, which include 6 crore senior citizens. They will get free health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per family.
The Modi government started this scheme under the National Health Policy in the year 2017. Under this scheme, free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh can be availed in identified government and private hospitals across the country.
There is also a provision to pay medical expenses for 10 days before and after hospitalization under the scheme. However, there are some states that have refused to implement this scheme and the state government is running its own scheme there.
