New Delhi, 10 April (IANS). The BJP government of Delhi will give health cards to people under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) on Thursday. These cards will be given to those who had registered under this scheme.

Health cards will be distributed to the beneficiaries at 3 pm in a program organized at Vigyan Bhawan.

The PM-JAY, launched in 2018, aims to reduce the financial burden of health care on economically weaker families across India.

A memorandum (MoU) was recently signed between the National Health Authority (NHA) of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (NHA) and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Delhi. Delhi has officially become a 35th state or union territory to implement this scheme.

West Bengal has so far remained the only state to adopt PM-JAY.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced an additional health cover of Rs 5 lakh by the state government under this scheme, which will be in addition to coverage of Rs 5 lakh under the central scheme.

CM Gupta said, “Around 6.54 lakh families in Delhi will now be able to benefit from Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Card distribution for this scheme will be started from 10 April 2025.”

Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh said during a conversation with IANS on Wednesday (April 9) that the Delhi government aims to give cards to 400 to 500 beneficiaries on the first day of the scheme. Along with this, special counter and website will be started for registration. People will be informed about the status of registration and further process through messages on mobile, so that they do not have to wander much.

The Health Minister also clarified that cards will be distributed only after examining all the documents to maintain transparency in the scheme. He said, “We want this scheme to reach only those who are real entitled. Any kind of disturbance or fraud will not be tolerated.”

Dr. Pankaj Singh expressed confidence that in the coming time, every eligible citizen of Delhi will be given the benefit of Ayushman Yojana and it will prove to be a big relief for the people of Delhi. He said that this will provide great relief to the poor, especially those who are unable to get treatment.
