Bihar: Ayushman card made boon for beneficiaries, treatment of eye diseases being done in Gaya

Gaya, 8 June (IANS). Nav Bharat Jagriti Center (NBJK) has been doing remarkable work in the field of health, education and employment generation in rural areas of Bihar and Jharkhand for the last 54 years. This organization is one of the most reliable voluntary organizations in India, known for its social commitment and transparency. It has a distinct identity in particular in the field of eye health.

NBJK has made unprecedented contribution in the last two decades to overcome the lack of treatment of eye diseases in rural India. The organization has established four eye hospitals and 17 vision centers, through which 2,30,214 cataract surgery and 14,76,616 eye patients have been treated.

In this series, NBJK inaugurated the folk hero Jayaprakash Eye Hospital in Kajha village of Wazirganj block in Gaya district on 18 January 2020. It provides free or highly affordable eye care services to more than 1 million people from Nawada, Jehanabad, Aurangabad and Nalanda districts. It is the only charitable eye hospital in the region, which provides treatment for all types of eye diseases.

The folk hero Jayaprakash Eye Hospital has a modular operation theater (OT), two other OT, 100 indoor patient beds, pathological labs, glasses and medicines shops, world -class diagnostic equipment, and a dedicated team of trained eye surgeons and paramedical staff. In the year 2024, the hospital provided services to 26,240 OPD patients and identified cataract patients through 637 rural eye camps and performed surgery.

In view of the quality and social impact of the services of the hospital, the civil surgeon of Gaya honored it in 2022 and 2023 with a letter of praise. Public hero Jayaprakash Eye Hospital Ayushman Bharat provides free eye surgery and other health services under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

On an average, 40 percent of the patients in the hospital make Ayushman card on the basis of their ration card and Aadhaar card, which has availed thousands of people for free treatment. This facility has proved to be a boon, especially for rural patients who do not already have Ayushman card.

Sharing his story, Balinder Singh, wolf village of Manpur block, told, “I was treated under Ayushman Card. Timely treatment, food and all facilities were found. If this card was not there, my treatment was not possible. I was not possible. This scheme is getting a lot of benefit from this scheme in rural India.”

Loknayak Jayaprakash Hospital, who arrived at Wazirganj Gaya to get the eye treated, said that my card was made. The eye operation was also done and no money was spent. I want to thank the Modi government. My eye has become with the cooperation of the central government. The poor are being treated for free. This government is taking special care of the poor. Gradually, Ayushman card is being made in rural areas. Many people are still not made, but the process of constantly making is going on. The hospitals take a car and go to the rural areas, roam from village to village. This initiative spreads awareness. From one person to another, one knows that the eye is being treated in the hospital. This makes people aware and also provides their treatment. If this card was not there, then my eye would not have been made. This was possible due to the government and I want to thank the Modi government for this.

A person named Balinder Singh said, “I am a resident of Wolf village of Manpur block. I was treated under Ayushman Card. Timely treatment, food and all facilities were found. If this card was not there, my treatment was not possible. I was not possible in rural India. This scheme is getting a lot of benefits from this scheme. My wife has this card in our family. A boy is also made.
