New Delhi, November 10 (IANS). Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) celebrated its first foundation day on Saturday. During this, the Ministry of Science and Technology said that BRIC is playing an important role in harmonizing research and enhancing the power of science, technology and innovation.
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) had set up BRIC on November 10 last year by comprising 14 autonomous institutes (AIs).
BRIC is playing a vital role in pursuing excellence and innovation in the biotechnology sector.
Addressing the first Foundation Day of BRIC, Rajesh S Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology and Director General of BRIC, said, “BRIC will bring value and impact in terms of harmonizing research, enhancing and transforming the power of science, technology and innovation. It is playing an important role in increasing the The event was attended by various officials, researchers and students from 15 IBREC institutions.
Chief Guest Amitabh Kant appreciated the efforts of the department and said that “BRIC will be a landmark institution for the country.”
On November 9, a competition named “Race from Science to Entrepreneurship (RASE)” was organized.
The objective of this competition was to encourage young talents nurtured in IBREC Plus institutions to develop their careers by exposing them to issues related to commercialization of biosciences, especially the thematic areas mentioned in the BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) policy. Entrepreneurial skills can be developed.
On 10th November, a sports meet and a get together was planned for IBREC Plus institutions and DBT to promote harmony, physical fitness, teamwork and bonding among the DBT-IBREC Plus families.
Events like cricket, badminton, table tennis and chess were included in the sports meet.
“BRIC is playing an important role in bringing together scientists and researchers from various institutions and is expected to achieve commendable results in promoting the Indian biotechnology sector,” the ministry said.
