Nompenh, 25 April (IANS). Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Manet said that his country is making good progress towards being completely free from malaria by the end of 2025.
On the occasion of National Malaria Day, he said that in 2024, only 355 malaria cases were reported in the country, which is 75 percent less than 2023.
He also said that since 2018 there has been no death from malaria and since 2024, no person has been found to have a dangerous type of malaria called P. Plasiparum.
The Prime Minister appealed to all the people to support the country in achieving this goal.
According to the news agency Xinhua, HU Rekol, director of the National Center for Parasitology, Antomology and Malaria Control, said that malaria investigation and treatment in Cambodia has been very effective. He reported that Articunet/Mefloquin, also known as ASMQ, is 100 percent safe and effective against malaria.
He said, “This progress has brought Cambodia into the category of successful countries ending malaria.”
Malaria is an infectious disease that spreads by mosquito bites. The disease is more especially in forests and hilly areas, especially in the rainy season. Those who live in malaria affected areas should always use mosquito nets, especially insecticides safe mosquito nets.
Mild symptoms may cause fever, chills and headaches. But in severe cases there may be tiredness, confusion, seizures and difficulty in breathing. Young children, children under 5 years of age, pregnant women, people suffering from HIV can be more affected by malaria.
Avoiding mosquitoes is the best way to prevent malaria. Apart from this, some medicines also help to avoid malaria. Treatment can prevent mild cases from becoming severe.
The disease is usually spread by infected female anaphylaz mosquito bites. Apart from this, infected blood can also spread by offering or used needles. Early symptoms are mild fever, so it can be difficult to identify. If not treated, the malaria named P. Plasiparum can become fatal in 24 hours.
