New Delhi, 24 April (IANS). In America, measles disease can again spread in large numbers, because the rate of vaccinations to children there is decreasing in many states. This has been revealed in a new research.
Scientists at the University of Stanford, Biler, Rice and Texas of America conducted this study through a model. According to the Xinhua News Agency, this model studied different conditions of 25 years with different vaccination rates.
The study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association stated that if the vaccination situation persists, measles disease may become common in the US again and more than 8.5 lakh measles cases can be reported in the next 25 years.
If the vaccination rate is reduced by 10%, then about 1.1 million people can be hit by measles. And if this rate has fallen by 50%, the situation will become even more serious with 5.1 million measles cases, 99 lakh rubella, 43 lakh polio, 197 diphtheria cases, 10.3 lakh hospitalized cases and about 1.6 lakh deaths.
The rate of vaccination in the US is decreasing since the time of Kovid-19 epidemic. There are reasons for this, such as changes in policies (such as not vaccinated on the basis of parents’ personal beliefs), spreading wrong information, lack of trust in government and health system, and other problems related to society.
Now some policy-makers are also considering reducing the number of vaccines given to children. In the midst of all this, diseases that can be saved from vaccine have started spreading again. Since 2024, many cases of measles have been reported in the US till now, many of which had to be hospitalized.
Scientists have said that if the rate of vaccination is increased, then diseases like measles can be prevented from spreading again. They clearly say that it is very important to continue regular childhood vaccination, otherwise many diseases will become common again.
