New Delhi, 8 March (IANS). The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy (DAHD) under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy said on Saturday that more than 1 lakh cattlemen have been informed about separate Juneotic diseases on International Women’s Day.
Women were informed by experts and veterinarians through a virtual program about the role of athonatorry drugs in clean milk production and prevention of disease.
Alka Upadhyay, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy, presided over the virtual session, saying, “Women play an important role in Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS).”
Upadhyay said, “Women have been able to organize themselves through dairy farmer growing organizations (FPOs), community farmers (CLFs) and self -help groups (SHGs), where dairy cooperatives (DCS) were not present.”
“The contribution of women in the dairy sector is very large, they should also focus on availing the central government schemes in this area,” he said.
He said that goat and sheep rearing schemes can help women farmers get good returns at low cost.
Giving an example of Kovid epidemic, he said that there is a need to pay attention to the prevention of Juneotic diseases to prevent the spread of disease from animals to humans and reduction in productivity.
Women from 21 states and union territories participated in the virtual session. Around 2,050 camps were organized by village level entrepreneurs (Village Level Entrepreneur).
DAHD Additional Secretary Varsha Joshi said, “Women farmers should focus on the relationship between animal husbandry practice and public health.”
He emphasized the need for clean, sustainable practice in the region and discussed the importance of clean milk production and bio -safety measures to prevent the spread of diseases in humans.
Recently, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the amendment of the Livestock Health and Disease Control Scheme (LHDCP) with a total outlay of Rs 3,880 crore.
