Mumbai, 4 February (IANS). Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar on Tuesday held a special conversation with IANS about the Gilian-Baire Syndrome (GBS) disease. During this time, he gave his idea about comparing GBS to Korona and informed about the steps taken by the state government.
Speaking to IANS, Health Minister Prakash Abitkar said that on January 9, there was a sudden increase in GBS cases in Maharashtra. After this, fear had spread among the people and it was seen to be associated with corona. However, I appeal to all citizens through the media not to compare the disease to Corona. It is a different type of disease, which is mainly due to the weakening of the immune system. Due to this disease, five people have died in the state so far.
He said that we had a meeting with Union Health Minister JP Nadda on this subject. He assured us that the central government is ready to provide all possible assistance.
He further said that the number of GBS patients had increased in Pune, but our government along with the metropolitan municipality and other related institutions got control over it. Now the number of patients has declined. In addition, when questioned regarding contaminated water and diseases, he said that contaminated water is the main cause of not only GBS, but many other diseases. To solve this problem, we are making a new law, which will ensure the purity of water. This law will decide the responsibility of the municipal corporation, authorities and other concerned departments, so that the public can get clean water.
Let us know that earlier on January 27, in view of the increasing cases of GBS in Pune, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare deployed a seven -member team to support public health intervention and management in the state. The high level team of the Center consisted of multi-disciplinary experts. It aims to support state health officials in establishing public health intervention and management in view of GBS’s suspected and strong cases.
