New Delhi, January 13 (IANS). Cervical cancer is a major factor in untimely deaths of women in the country. In view of this, ‘Cervical Cancer Awareness Month’ is celebrated every year in January. Under this, women are made aware of this disease and encouraged to get vaccinated. Despite this, there are still a large number of women who do not know about the symptoms of this disease.
Dr. Priya Bansal of Gynecology Oncosurgery Department of Fortis Hospital told in a special conversation with IANS that uterine cancer is called cervical cancer. The uterus is connected to the vaginal canal of women and the part where it connects is called cervix. From where the child comes out through the mother’s vaginal canal. Cancer affecting the cervix is called cervical cancer.
Dr. Bansal told about its symptoms that its initial symptoms include irregular bleeding and bleeding outside periods. Apart from this, apart from sexual activity, bleeding or pain during sexual activity is also included in its symptoms.
Regarding its diagnosis, he said that it can be done mainly in three ways. If it is caught in the initial days itself, it can be cured by surgery. If there is a delay in detection, it can be treated through chemotherapy and radiation. But, before cervical cancer occurs, it occurs in the form of pre-cancer. If we catch it in time, we can cure it without any major surgery.
Dr. Bansal says that every woman who has a cervix in her body is at risk of cervical cancer. But, people who have had many sexual partners or whose immunity is slightly weak are most at risk. There is also a risk of this due to any major change in lifestyle.
He told that we celebrate January as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, so that we can make people aware about it. This is the only cancer whose diagnosis is possible with a vaccine.
