Now he has changed his name from Aryan to Anaya. Aryan lives in London and like his father, he also plays cricket and loves cricket very much.
In his post, Aryan has written, ‘I never considered leaving the game which has been my passion, my love and my escape. But here I am facing a painful reality. As a trans woman, my body has changed significantly during hormone replacement therapy (HRT). I am losing my muscle mass, strength, muscle memory, and athletic abilities that I once relied on. The game I loved for a long time is getting away from me.
What is hormone replacement therapy?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment that doctors commonly use to treat menopause symptoms. This helps in balancing the levels of progesterone and estrogen hormones in the body. Like Aryan’s case, it has also been used to change the gender at birth. There are two types of hormone replacement therapy. Feminizing and virilizing hormone therapy. When a man changes to a woman due to hormones, feminizing therapy is given for this.
What changes occur in feminizing hormone therapy?
Through feminizing hormone therapy, female hormones are produced in any man by making changes inside him. With this therapy, masculine characteristics are reduced. Estrogen and androgen blockers are used. Which helps in facial hair removal, voice change and breast development.
Disadvantages of Feminizing Hormone Therapy
This type of therapy brings changes in the body but one may also have to face many side effects. Many researches have revealed that this therapy affects fertility and sexual function. Sometimes this also increases the risk of cancer. In such cases, the risk of endometrial, breast and ovarian cancer may increase.
