New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) According to health experts, diseases like diabetes, heart disease and obesity can increase the level of inflammation in the body.
According to experts, inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury, disease, irritation or oxidative stress. This can be a major factor in loss of consciousness or poor brain function.
According to information, during inflammation the cells of the body fight among themselves and become a home for infection. This releases certain chemicals, which generate a reaction in the surrounding cells. This causes inflammation, which often causes pain or swelling.
“An overactive immune system or a prolonged infection causes inflammation in the brain cells. This weakens the nervous system and leads to loss of consciousness,” Dr Vinash Taneja, consultant, department of medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, told IANS.
Taneja said, “The risk is higher in the elderly. Apart from this, people suffering from diseases like diabetes, heart disease and obesity also have a higher risk of loss of consciousness.”
Dr Vipul Gupta, Group Director, NeuroIntervention Paras Hospital, Gurugram, said, “Lifestyle factors can also contribute to inflammation. These include low physical activity levels, stress, obesity, unhealthy eating habits such as consuming oily, junk food or foods with sugary flavors, sleep disturbances, air pollution, smoking and alcohol consumption which have a bad effect on the body.”
He said, “Inflammation occurs when someone has a fever or infection, which comes and goes. However, in some cases, long-term inflammation can also occur. Studies have shown that patients with arthritis, especially those who are obese, have a higher risk of loss of consciousness or reduced brain function.”
Gupta said, “To prevent this, one should include daily physical activity and exercise in one’s routine. Avoiding smoking and alcohol and eating fruits and vegetables are beneficial.”
Dr. Taneja says that chronic stress can also cause inflammation. He recommends adopting measures like meditation and relaxation to avoid this.
