Experts say that during Diwali and all its surrounding festivals, eat things rich in fiber before eating sweets. You should consume fruits and salad in your diet. Eating these foods does not increase the sugar level suddenly. After eating these foods, you can eat sweets in limited quantity. Adding dry fruits like almonds and walnuts to sweets enhances the taste and makes the sweets a little healthier.

Nutritionist Ruchi Sahay says that it is important to drink adequate amount of water before and after eating sweets. Water flushes out toxic substances from the body and keeps the sugar level under control. It is important for sugar patients to drink adequate amount of water throughout the day. Drink at least 7 to 8 glasses of water a day. During this period it is also important to take care of the diet. You should include millets like jowar and millet in your diet. Avoid eating fast food, packed food and sweets in large quantities during Diwali. However, if your sugar level has already increased due to some reason then do not eat sweets.
