New Delhi, November 30 (IANS). Do you remember the last time you were happy? A moment in which you were absolutely happy from the heart, be it your personal or professional achievement. That momentary happiness that comes sometimes only on a special occasion in life, is what we call dopamine.

Dopamine is a type of neurotransmitter that controls the body, brain and behavior. Dopamine is mainly associated with the reward center and pleasure center of the brain. When we receive a reward, there is a release of dopamine, which makes us feel happy. It is the most important part of our emotional health along with sleep and digestion. Whenever you feel better in life, know that dopamine is behind it.

Dopamine is about laughing and having happy moments in life but only the right amount of it is good for the body. If the balance of this quantity gets disturbed then it can be harmful for the body. No research has been done on dopamine yet. It reduces ADHD, depression, lack of sleep and anxiety. It helps the person in his daily life activities.

If you also want to take advantage of dopamine, then from today itself try to do things that make you happy. You can talk to a friend who makes you happy. Apart from this, engaging in any activity that can make you feel better is very important for your health.

To understand dopamine, IANS spoke to psychologist and educator Dr. Priya Bhatnagar.

“Dopamine plays an important role in the regulation of mental health, across cognitive functions, thinking and pleasure,” said Dr Priya Bhatnagar. Dopamine plays a strong role in all these things. Dopamine imbalance can cause many mental disorders, which include diseases like schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is a type of neurodevelopmental disorder that affects attention, control and movement.

Dr. Priya Bhatnagar further said, “When the level of dopamine in the body is high, it can cause problems like impulse control, difficulty in problem solving, making hasty decisions. At the same time, when dopamine levels decrease, it can cause problems like fatigue, laziness, and inability to experience happiness.

He further said, “Dopamine is also called the ‘feel good hormone’ because it is a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in our reward, pleasure, thinking, planning, coordination, movement and cognitive abilities. This has a deep impact on our entire behavior.”

Dr. Priya Bhatnagar told that overall, it is important for us to understand that dopamine is connected to the pleasure area of our brain. This is the same chemical that makes us happy with everything and defines our interests. Therefore, it is extremely important to have a balanced level of dopamine in our body, its access to the brain, and the right connections between the brain and the body.”
