New Delhi, 17 April (IANS). The Delhi government will launch ‘Ayushman Card’ for people above 70 years of age by the end of April.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a meeting with other cabinet ministers on Wednesday, in which MLAs and officials of the state and central government were present.
This initiative is part of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which aims to provide health insurance cover of up to Rs 5 lakh in a year, so that they can get treatment in secondary and tertiary care hospitals.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss and distribute the Ayushman cards and discuss the opening of Arogya Temple in the national capital.
The Chief Minister said that after waiting for many years, Delhi has got the Ayushman Bharat scheme and today we are meeting to implement it, so that all the cards can reach the public quickly. All MLAs have been given this responsibility. Efforts are being made to benefit the elderly over 70 years of age.
Identification of space should be started immediately to open 1,139 Arogya Temple in every area of Delhi, as previous governments ruined time and Delhi suffered losses. Now we do not want to waste more time. Our government will start working on it from today.
Senior citizens of 70 years or older of all age groups will be eligible for Ayushman card.
This card gives every family a health insurance cover up to Rs 5 lakh every year, including more than 1500 medical procedures.
The Delhi government is planning to open 1,139 Arogya temples across the city. These Arogya Temple will provide health services, which will be different from services offered by Mohalla clinics.
The legislators have been tasked with distributing the existing Ayushman cards and opening the Arogya Temple in collaboration with the District Magistrates.
Delhi CM Gupta said, “The MLAs have been instructed to distribute the existing Ayushman cards in association with the District Magistrates (DM) and open the Arogya temple in all parts of the state.”
Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh said that the government will build 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Temple for the people of Delhi.
He said, “Our goal is to build 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Temple for the people of Delhi and we will achieve it. It was discussed how this facility can be provided to the elderly above 70 years of age. Our Arogya Mandir Mohalla will be completely different from the clinics.
An agreement was signed in New Delhi on 5 April 2025 between the Delhi Government and the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
