Excessive amount of caffeine can disturb sleep

New Delhi, September 26 (IANS). Often stress, bad lifestyle and sometimes unhealthy food can disturb our sleep. But, do you know that caffeine has a deep connection with sleep.

If you consume excessive amount of caffeine throughout the day, it is not only harmful for your body, it can also cause insomnia.

The body of many people is very sensitive, in such a situation they should always avoid taking caffeine in large quantities, because caffeine remains present in the body for 24 hours. This can cause problem of sleeplessness, which is bound to spoil your lifestyle.

IANS spoke to Delhi’s CK about the relationship between caffeine and sleep. Spoke to Dr. Vikas Mittal, pulmonologist at Birla Hospital.

Dr. Vikas Mittal said, “Caffeine consumption increases the time taken to fall asleep, which affects the quality of sleep. If you are also taking excessive amount of caffeine then it will not let you go into deep sleep. There will be symptoms of waking up from sleep and restlessness.

Giving advice, he said, “Many researches have revealed that consuming caffeine 6 hours before sleeping can cause sleep disturbance.” “Research supports the recommendation to avoid consuming substantial amounts of caffeine at least 6 hours before bedtime.”

He further said, “The effects of caffeine usually begin about 30 minutes after consumption. Apart from this, a lot also depends on its use and its quantity. In many people its effect is also delayed.

Dr. Vikas Mittal added, “The FDA recommends that up to 400 mg of caffeine per day is generally safe for adults, but it is important to limit intake for better sleep. “Especially one should avoid taking it a few hours before sleeping.”

Caffeine is found in many types of foods, including chocolate, soft drinks, tea and coffee. It is also found in some medicines.
