But do you know that this seemingly minor problem can be quite serious? Yes, it is so. Although snoring can happen to anyone sometimes, it is not a disease. Also, snoring is also considered common in old people. Let us know the expert’s advice on this. The country’s famous cardiologist Ramakant Panda is telling us about snoring. In a podcast show, he told about how snoring can also be a sign of serious diseases.

Why does snoring occur?
Snoring occurs due to pressure on the neck muscles while sleeping at night. Actually, some people feel difficulty in breathing at night, they feel obstruction while breathing through the nose, hence snoring occurs. Some people suffer from blocked nose at night and they also snore. Older people snore more because their muscles become loose and they are less physically active.

Risk of which diseases?
1. Heart Disease- Doctor Ramakant says that snoring indicates bad health, people who do less exercise, eat poorly balanced food or are overweight, they snore more. For these people, especially those who are young, excessive snoring increases the risk of heart failure and heart attack.

2. Diabetes- Doctors say that snoring and sleep apnea, which is a sleep disorder, are caused due to the wrong effect of physical activity and insulin on the body. This increases the chances of diabetes in those people, because the body is not able to process sugar properly.

3. High blood pressure- According to experts, excessive snoring can also mean blood pressure disease. Hypertension occurs in these people because snoring slows down the oxygen level in the blood. Many times, snoring slows down the blood circulation in the heart, which also leads to heart attack.

How to reduce snoring?
Change your sleeping posture, sleep less on your back.
Install a humidifier in the room, this helps in maintaining moisture in the air.
Follow good habits like reducing smoking and alcohol consumption.
Weight management is also important.
If the problem becomes severe, seek expert advice.
