New Delhi, 7 June (IANS). Union Health Minister JP Nadda said on World Food Safety Day on Saturday that it is necessary for health and welfare to focus on food security.
World Food Safety Day is observed every year on 7 June, so that health problems caused by unsafe food can be prevented, identified and controlled.
This year’s theme is ‘Food Security: To implement science’, which emphasizes the importance of scientific knowledge in reducing food -borne diseases, saving costs and saving lives.
JP Nadda wrote on the social media platform X, “On World Food Safety Day we understand the importance of clean and safe food, which protects health and prevents food -borne diseases. Food is a source of our energy. We protect ourselves and our family health by paying attention to food security.”
He said that this year’s theme celebrates food quality and safety through science and technology.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) also posted on X, which states, “Science plays an important role in food security. From laboratories to setting standard, science helps us choose the right choice. Choose wisely, eat safe!”
According to the World Health Organization, food contaminated with bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances can cause more than 200 diseases. For safe food, the World Health Organization recommends to keep the food clean, separate raw and ripe food, cook well, keep it at safe temperatures and use clean water while cooking.
Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi also posted on the occasion of World Food Safety Day, which said, “On World Food Safety Day, we should resolve to adopt safe food habits. Safe food is the responsibility of all and it is a healthy, strong and safe tomorrow foundation.”
