According to the Instagram post of the Ministry of AYUSH, Paschimottanasana is extremely beneficial for the elderly. It strengthens the abdominal muscles as well as reduces the possibility of sciatica. It is also helpful in curing constipation, obesity, indigestion and skin diseases.
The practice of Paschimottanasana improves respiratory capacity, strengthening the lungs. This asana is considered very beneficial, especially for diabetic patients, as it helps in controlling blood sugar. Also, it is beneficial in problems related to liver and kidney.
Paschimottanasana is quite effective in relieving menstrual disorders. It improves blood circulation in the lower abdomen and helps reduce pain. This asana maintains hormonal balance, which provides relief in problems like irregular periods, excess bleeding or fatigue.
This asana improves mental clarity and concentration. This helps in reducing anxiety and stress, which makes the person feel more balanced and positive.
It is very important to know the right way before doing Paschimottanasana. Do not put too much emphasis on the body while doing this, especially when you are starting it. To do this asana, first of all sit on the ground by spreading the feet directly. Then take a deep breath and slowly tilt the body forward. Try to touch the feet with hands and mix the head or nose with knees. Stop like this for a while, then slowly straighten.
The ministry in its post forbids those people who have ulcers in their stomach. It has also said to consult an expert.
