Kampala, 3 February (IANS). The government has established an isolation and treatment center after an outbreak of Ebola virus in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. The facility is built at Mulago National Referral Hospital and has 84 beds.
It has been developed in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank. Henry Kybe Bosa, a Health Ministry official, said that the center will manage suspected and strong cases of Sudan Ebola Virus Disease (SVD). He said that a national emergency medical team has been deployed here, which is already trained and ready to take care of the patients.
Apart from this, a separation center is also being built in Mbale, which will start working soon. This outbreak of Ebola was announced when a 32 -year -old nurse died of the disease last week. The Health Ministry has said that 45 people who have come in contact with the deceased have been identified and are being monitored. The government has appealed to the public to remain calm and assured that the situation is under control. According to WHO data, the previous Ebola outbreak in Uganda began in September 2022 and ended in January 2023, in which 164 people were infected and 77 were killed.
It is known that Ebola is a rare, but dangerous disease, which spreads from exposure to the fluids of infected animals or people. It is mostly spread as outbreaks in parts of Africa. Its early symptoms are like flu, such as fever, headache and body rashes. But this can take a rapidly severe form, causing vomiting, bleeding and neurological problems. The Ebola virus can spread to humans with bats, non-human primet and antelope and then take the form of an epidemic from one person to another.
