What to do to avoid heat wave
There is scorching heat in different parts of the country. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has estimated the scorching heat in many areas of North India as well as Delhi NCR in the next few weeks. The national capital saw light rain with thunderstorms a few days ago. However, IMD has issued warnings of heatwave in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana and many other North Indian states for the rest of the months of the month starting from April 15.
Excessive heat conditions affect your eye health along with health. Long -term high temperature exposure to the ultraviolet ray increases, causing many eye problems. Let us know what problems can be caused by staying in the sun for a long time and what to do for rescue?
Heat wave can cause these problems related to eyes:
Due to heat and low humidity, the eyes start drying up which is called dry eye syndrome. Because of this, some people may also feel eye irritation, blurred vision or gritty. UV rays, especially in strong sunlight, can damage the cornea and increase the risk of photocratitis which is essentially eye sunburn and leads to pain, sensitivity to light and temporary vision loss. Prolonged contact of UV radiation can lead to development of cataract and macular degeneration, which can spoil the vision over time. Due to heatwave, people spend more time in air-condition environment, which makes the eyes more dry.
Effective ways to keep the eyes safe in summer season:
Wear UV-protective sunglasses: Choose sunglasses that prevent 100% UVA and UVB rays to protect the eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays.
Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water helps to maintain tears and prevents dry and irritable eyes.
Avoid direct sunlight contact: Stay indoors during maximum sunshine hours (from 10 am to 4 pm) or wear wide hats and sunglasses for additional safety when going out.
Limit the contact with the air conditioner: Avoid sitting directly in front of the fan or air vent, as continuous air flow may dry your eyes. If necessary, use humidifier to maintain moisture levels indoors.
