How to control increasing uric acid in old age?

New Delhi, September 6 (IANS). In the changing lifestyle, problems like increasing uric acid have become common with increasing age. We can also control it due to our lifestyle. So let’s know how to control increasing uric acid in old age?

Uric acid is a waste product that forms when the body breaks down chemicals called purines that are found in food and drinks. Normally, most of the uric acid dissolves in our blood, passes through the kidneys, and is excreted in the urine. But when the amount of uric acid in the body becomes too high, it is called hyperuricemia.

The problem of increasing uric acid levels is becoming more common with age. You may not even know that you have hyperuricemia. But over time, excess uric acid in your blood can cause pain and other symptoms. It affects the bones, joints, tendons, ligaments of your body.

To avoid this, you have to avoid consuming foods rich in purines. Purines promote the formation of uric acid. Foods rich in purines include red meat, organ meats (such as liver, kidney), seafood (such as shrimp, fish) and beans. Minimize their intake.

To control uric acid, one should consume plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are helpful in reducing the level of uric acid. Especially eating cherries, apples and cucumbers helps in controlling the increasing uric acid.

Drinking more water is also needed to prevent the amount of uric acid from increasing in the body. You should drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily. Water helps in flushing out uric acid from the body.

To control uric acid, you should consume iron-rich foods. Iron-rich foods like green leafy vegetables, pulses and nuts can be helpful in controlling uric acid levels.

To control uric acid, apart from changing your eating habits, you also have to pay attention to your increasing body weight. For this, you have to reduce your body weight. If you are overweight, then try to lose weight through a healthy diet and regular exercise. To lose weight, avoid excessive calorie intake and take a balanced diet.

Also, it is recommended to do at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week. Sitting in one place for a long time can increase uric acid levels. Keep physical activities active throughout the day and reduce sitting time.

To keep uric acid under control, you also need to avoid smoking and alcohol consumption. Smoking can increase uric acid levels and lead to a number of other health problems. Beer and other alcohol are particularly high in purines, which can increase uric acid levels.

Apart from this, if you are facing difficulties due to increasing uric acid, then definitely consult a doctor. The doctor can recommend medication based on your health condition. Get your uric acid levels checked regularly so that the condition can be assessed timely and necessary steps can be taken.

Apart from all this, you also have to pay attention to your mental health. Stress has to be reduced. Yoga, meditation and deep breathing techniques can be helpful in reducing stress. For this you also need to get enough sleep. All these things help in controlling uric acid.
