World Malaria Day 2025
Malaria is a disease that spreads to people by biting some infected unopheles. This mosquito spreads a virus called Plasmodium Wevex and after its bite your body becomes infected and then the symptoms of malaria start appearing in the body. If it is not treated, malaria can be changed to serious illness and fatal within 24 hours. Malaria still remains a serious public health problem in India. However, its cases have declined in previous years.
However, people are still coming in the grip of this disease. In such a situation, ‘World Malaria Day’ is celebrated on 25 April every year to spread awareness. According to the National Vector -Janit Disease Control Program (NVBDCP), there was a significant decline in malaria cases in 2023, but some states are still more affected by the disease. Although there has been more than 97 per cent decline in malaria in the country since the time of independence.
Most affected states with malaria:
According to 2023 data, the following states were the most affected by malaria:
Chhattisgarh: This state is at the top of malaria matters in the country. The outbreak of malaria is high due to limited reach of health services in dense vegetation and tribal areas here.
Odisha: Odisha also has more number of malaria cases, especially in tribal dominated areas. The state government has launched malaria -free campaign, but challenges remain.
Jharkhand: There are more malaria cases in remote areas of Jharkhand. Limited access to health services and lack of awareness are the main reasons.
Madhya Pradesh: Some districts here have more malaria cases, especially in tribal areas.
Gujarat: Malaria cases have also been reported in some parts of Gujarat, although the state government has made efforts to control it.
Story behind data:
Geographical and environmental factors: Malaria cases are found more in states where dense forests, rivers and tribal population are high. These areas are suitable for breeding of mosquitoes. Limited access to health services in remote areas delays identification and treatment of malaria. Some areas lack awareness about malaria symptoms and methods of prevention, which leads to the spread of the disease.
What do doctors say
According to Dr. Sunil Rana, Associate Director and Head-Internal Medicine, Asian Hospital, the government has done a great job in the last few years to control malaria. Both malaria cases and deaths have declined, which is a major success. It is now necessary that awareness should be increased in rural and tribal areas and mosquito nets and timely treatment reached every person. Vigilance is necessary. Immediate investigation on mosquito control, cleanliness and fever, if every person adopts these three things, we can completely eliminate malaria. “
Who is the most danger in the eyes of WHO:
Children younger than 5 years
Women and adolescents
People from tribal and rural areas
Migrant laborer
Divyang mass
People who live far and wide where health services do not reach easily. If timely investigation and treatment does not reach these people, then their lives can be made.
Equal access to the means of rescue required:
According to WHO, about 2.2 billion cases of malaria and 1.27 crore deaths have been stopped since 2000, but still the disease remains a major challenge. In the year 2023, an estimated 26.3 crore malaria cases were reported, in which about 5.97 lakh people died. This number shows 1.1 crore more cases and about the same deaths than in 2022. About 95 percent of these deaths occurred in the countries of Africa, where even today many people do not get the necessary means to avoid malaria or get treatment.
