New Delhi, 26 May (IANS). Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), said on Monday that Kovid-19 infection is increasing in India, but there is nothing to worry because they are not serious.
Bahl assured that the government is actively monitoring matters.
According to the new data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 1,009 cases of Kovid in India, including Kerala (430), Maharashtra (209) and Delhi (104). Apart from this, there have also been seven deaths in Maharashtra (4), Kerala (2) and Karnataka (1).
Bahl while talking to reporters said that the number of infection has increased and we are keeping a close watch on it.
He said that the number is increasing, but there is nothing to worry, as the percentage of serious cases in all Kovid cases is generally low.
According to the latest data from the Indian SARS-Cov-2 Genomics Consortium, established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, NB.1.8.1 and LF7, JN.1 Covid variant, are responsible for the increase in SARS-Kov-2 cases in the country.
Bahl said that all these-variants can dodge natural or vaccine-inspired previous immunity. However, his capacity is less than the previous Omikron and other variants.
In addition, he emphasized the need to ‘increase and be prepared’ in the case of increase in cases.
He said that Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava held a meeting to review the situation of Kovid. DGHS and ICMR participated in it.
He further said that we are keeping an eye on the situation very closely and will keep further.
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had said that guidelines have been issued to all hospitals and the government is keeping a close watch on the Kovid matters.
Last week, the Delhi government issued an advisory regarding Kovid-19, asking hospitals in the national capital to ensure the availability of beds, oxygen, medicines and vaccines.
Advisory stated, “Hospitals should ensure preparations in terms of availability of beds, oxygen, antibiotics, other medicines and vaccines. All equipment like ventilator, BI-PAP, oxygen concentrator and PSA should be in current condition.”
