New Delhi, January 22 (IANS). The wife of an Indian Army soldier was waiting for a heart transplant for a long time. The soldier’s wife has now got a new life. With his operation, the Indian Army has also achieved a new achievement in the medical field. This achievement has been achieved by Army Hospital (Research and Referral) located in Delhi Cantt.
According to the Defense Ministry, the Army Hospital has performed India’s first Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantation using the ‘HeartMate 3 device’. The Defense Ministry believes that while this has given a new life to the woman suffering from this, it is also a historic and first step for the Armed Forces Medical Services. The entire procedure was successfully performed on a 49-year-old wife of a senior armed forces soldier who was waiting for a heart transplant for more than two years.
The LVAD, often referred to as a ‘mechanical heart’, acts as a life-saver for patients suffering from end-stage heart failure, according to senior military officials involved in the treatment process. Army experts say the HeartMate 3 LVAD is a state-of-the-art device that uses advanced technology to improve heart function. It provides a ray of hope to patients with serious cardiovascular conditions. Presently the patient is recovering under medical supervision.
According to the Defense Ministry, this reflects the success of high quality teamwork. Along with this, the Ministry of Defense also believes that this achievement achieved by the Army Hospital reflects the Army Hospital’s continuous endeavor for excellence in medical care. This milestone also reaffirms the leading role of the Army Hospital (R&R) in providing advanced medical care.
