New Delhi, October 13 (IANS). Harivansh Rai Bachchan, the creator of Madhushala, said something very accurate on the defeat. It was written – Losing becomes necessary when the fight is with “our own people” and winning becomes necessary when the fight is with “ourselves”. So this is the essence of International Failure Day. If you lose, stand up, gather courage, fight yourself and become a juggler.
A unique festival which is celebrated every year on 13th October. It was started in 2010 by a group of students from Aalto University in Finland. A handful of students started off in Finland by learning how to recognize their hard work. In fact, during that period, it had become a country where the fear of failure was stopping many people from starting new ventures. Start up companies were not able to take off.
Entrepreneur society members were told that startup companies would not succeed unless founders acknowledged their past failures – and in Finnish culture, the fear of failure stopped many people from taking action. The result of celebrating this day was also excellent. According to foreign media reports, in the last decade, total investment in Finnish startups increased from €186 million in 2013 to €1.79 billion in 2022.
So in this way people here took a lesson from the defeat and moved forward with victory.
The world liked this experiment of Finland and gradually many learned the skill of learning from defeat and moving forward.
Let’s also talk about Henry Ford on Failure Day. Don’t need any identity. The world drives Ford cars. In the early 1900s, the Ford Motor Company faced a serious challenge. Indeed, the traditional method of assembling a Model T took approximately 12 hours, making the cars too expensive for the average consumer. This was a big issue. Which affected Ford production capacity.
The turning point came in 1913 when Ford introduced the ‘moving assembly line’. Inspired by other industries such as meat packing, importance was given to division of labor. Specialization in one job preferred. This reduced production time from 12 hours to just 90 minutes per car. By 1924, the price of the Model T had dropped from $825 to $260, and Ford was producing more than 2 million vehicles annually. It was a revolution that started from a failure and turned into a tremendous success.
So, the concept of International Failure Day is based on the belief that understanding and sharing failures is necessary in order to grow and succeed, because only then success knocks at your door. American novelist and actor Truman Capote said that adverse circumstances lead to great success. Failure is the spice that gives the taste of success.
