New Delhi, 25 January (IANS). Gulian-Baire Syndrome (GBS) affecting 73 people in Pune is a dangerous nervous disease, which has been described by experts.
GBS usually occurs after a bacterial or viral infection. In this, the immune system of the body accidentally attacks the nerve, which can lead to weakness, paralysis or sometimes death.
According to the State Health Department, a total of 73 cases of GBS have been confirmed in Pune, including 47 men and 26 women. 14 of these patients are on ventilator.
A 64 -year -old female patient, who was undergoing treatment at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri, has died due to GBS.
Talking about GBS, Dr. Manjari Tripathi, Head of the Department of Neurology of AIIMS said, GBS suddenly starts and often occurs after an infection. This is usually seen after the gastrointestinal infection caused by the campillobacter. ”
In GBS, paralysis from the foot can reach the respiratory problem. Many patients go on ventilator.
The National Institute of Virology (NIV) found Norovirus and Campilobacter Zajuni bacteria in 21 GBS samples. Both of them cause symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting and stomach disturbances. Many patients in Pune showed these symptoms before GBS.

There is no permanent cure for GBS. Symptoms such as weakness, tingling or numbness can spread to hands. Symptoms may last for weeks, but most patients are completely cured. However, in some cases there may be prolonged effects.
