Chennai, 12 June (IANS). Concerns about the possible new wave of Kovid-19 cases across the country are increasing. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has said that the people of the state have a very strong immunity against the virus, the credit goes to effective vaccination coverage.
According to the Directorate of Public Health and Prevention Medical (DPHAndPM), the fifth phase of the Statewide Serological Survey has revealed that antibodies against SARS-COV-2 virus have developed in 97 percent of blood samples. The survey started from April, focused on senior citizens of 6 districts of Chennai, Thiruvalluvar, Thiruvannamalai, Thiruchirappalli, Dharmapuri and Kanyakumari. A total of 3643 blood samples were taken and they were tested for SARS-COV-2 Aajiji Antibody.
Officials said the presence of antibodies in the body even three years after the onset of epidemic shows that the long-term effectiveness of Kovid-19 vaccines has been very good. These antibodies are part of the body’s safety system, which neutralizes the virus and prevents serious illness.
According to a statement by DPHAndPM, the high presence of antibodies among the general public is the main reason that only mild symptoms have appeared in recent Kovid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu and the mortality is almost zero.
Dr. Rajni Warrier, Associate Professor of Medicine at a private medical college in Salem, said, “When an infection enters the body, it naturally makes antibodies to fight it. However, weaker classes, such as elderly, pregnant women and pre -sick people should take care despite the presence of antibodies.”
The Tamil Nadu government claims that there has been no death related to Kovid-19 in the state so far this year. However, the data of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare indicates the opposite. According to central health, from January till now Tamil Nadu has recorded 6 deaths from Kovid-19, while there are more than 200 active cases.
However, as a precaution, some security measures are being implemented again in Tamil Nadu. In the last week of May, the Directorate of Public Health issued an advisory, recommending the use of face masks and physical distances in public places. After this, the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital made it mandatory to wear masks in its premises. Officials say the current situation is under control, but vigilance and precaution are necessary to prevent the virus’s return.
Earlier, after the increase in cases of infection across the country, the Central Government held a high -level meeting to assess preparations. All states and union territories were instructed to ensure adequate supply of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilaters and essential medicines.
