New Delhi, 17 June (IANS). The central government on Tuesday informed that welfare schemes in the country have provided assistance to more than 50 lakh workers and their families.
Through the Directorate General of Labor Welfare (DGLW), the Ministry of Labor and Employment has continued to implement a series of welfare schemes to improve the lives of unorganized workers in India.
The ministry said in a statement, “These schemes, which have a direct impact on more than 50 lakh workers and their families, are the foundation stone of the strategy designed to protect the welfare and rights of the workers.”
One of the major components of the Welfare Framework is the Education Assistance Scheme, providing an annual scholarship ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 25,000 for children of bidi and non-coach mines.
More than one lakh applications are received every year under this scheme to be implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), in which direct benefits, transfer (DBT) ensures transparent and timely distribution.
Health Scheme involves reimbursement for special treatment for serious diseases like outpatient service, as well as heart disease, kidney transplant, cancer, TB and minor surgery through the national network of dispensaries.
According to the ministry, financial assistance ranges from Rs 30,000 for small surgery to Rs 7.5 lakh for cancer treatment, ensuring access to life -saving healthcare for low -income workers.
Although the Revised Integrated Housing Scheme (RIHS), launched in 2016, is now finished and has been merged with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), but the ministry is continuing distribution of pending installments to eligible beneficiaries till 31 March 2024.
The Labor Welfare Organization (LWO) working under DGLW operates these schemes across the country through a well -organized network of 18 welfare commissioners. Its goal is to provide social security, health services, financial and housing assistance to the workers living in remote and deprived areas.
The ministry said, “These targeted schemes improve the quality and social security of the unorganized sector workers. Also, the government also implements the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ approach of the government.”
