Diet for pregnancy
Pregnancy is the most important phase of a woman’s life. At this time there are many types of physical and hormonal changes in the body, which require additional nutrition. The right diet not only improves the health of the mother, but also plays an important role in the entire development of the baby. In such a situation, Consultant and gynecologist at Claudnine Hospital in Faridabad, Dr. Shaily Sharma is telling how the pregnant woman’s diet should be during this period?
Pregnant women should have such diet:
Protein -rich diet: First, pregnant women should pay special attention to a protein -rich diet. Protein helps in manufacture and repair of body cells. Abundant protein can be obtained from sources such as pulses, milk, curd, cheese, eggs and chicken.
Iron -rich diet: Along with this, food containing iron is also mandatory. The amount of blood increases in pregnancy, so the requirement of iron increases. Foods such as spinach, beet, pomegranate, jaggery and dry fruits are good sources of iron. Apart from this, iron supplements can also be taken with the advice of a doctor.
Calcium -rich diet: Consumption of calcium is very important for the strengthening of bones. Calcium is essential for the development of bones and teeth of an unborn baby. Milk, curd, cheese, almonds and green leafy vegetables are rich in calcium.
Folic acid: Folic acid also plays a very important role in pregnancy. It helps in the development of the child’s brain and spinal cord and reduces the risk of birth defects. Green leafy vegetables, oranges, broccoli and fortified grains are good sources of folic acid.
Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3 fatty acids are also necessary during pregnancy, as they are helpful in the development of the brain and eyes of the baby. For this, the intake of fish (especially Salman and Tuna), walnuts and flaxseed seeds is beneficial. Also, drinking sufficient amount of water is also very important. Water helps in maintaining liquid balance in the body, protecting against constipation and better absorption of nutrients. During pregnancy, junk food, excessive fried substances, and more sugar foods should be avoided. Consumption of them can cause weight uncontrolled and may also have negative effects on the health of the baby.
Every woman has different nutritional needs. Therefore, it is very important to consult a doctor regularly along with a balanced diet. With correct nutrition, both mother and child can ensure complete health and proper development.
