पीजीआईएमईआर में पिट्यूटरी ट्यूमर के इलाज के लिए ‘सबसे लंबे आदमी’ की सर्जरी की गई

Chandigarh, 26 May (IANS). The Department of Neuro Surgery of PGIMER, Chandigarh has achieved a major success. He has so far treated cases of more than 100 pituitary tumors, including the longest patient, which was 7 feet 7 inches in length.

Acromegaly is a hormonal disease caused by a tumor produced in the pituitary gland. It can see excessive increase in bones and tissues. It is treated with endoscopic transnasal method. This is a low injury technique, in which no incision is made on the head.

The neurosurgery team led by Dr. Rajesh Chhabra, Dr. Apinderpreet Singh and Dr. Shilpi Bose performed 100 complex operations with the help of Neuro Anesthesia team led by Dr. Rajiv Chauhan and Dr. Ikazot and Dr. Darshan Parekh.

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) said on Monday that the Operation Theater team including OT Technician Gurpreet Singh played an important role in completing these winters properly and safely.

PGIMER Director Professor Vivek Lal appreciated the team’s support, saying, “Successful treatment of more than 100 complex pituitary tumors, including the longest patient of 7 feet 7 inches, proves to be medical expertise, accuracy and teamwork of PGIMER. This result shows that we are fully committed to giving excellent care with new thinking.

Describing the success of this surgery method, PGIMER recently treated a young man whose length had increased by 7 feet 7 inches. This length was a rare and severe condition of acromegaly caused by uncontrolled growth hormones. The patient was having trouble in joint pain, eye problems and everyday work. Then the tumor was successfully fired through the transnasal route without any mark. The hospital said that after surgery, their hormone levels began to normalize and within a few weeks their symptoms started to improve.

Explaining this in detail about this, Professor Dr. Rajiv Chauhan, additional professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Medical Department, said, “It was the longest patient in PGIMER till now. His unusual height and weight created many challenges in anesthesia. We reed the entire process in OT, a day before surgery to ensure safety and accurate. Completely ready to handle complex cases. “

Explaining this medical problem in detail, Dr. Rajesh Chhabra, Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery, said, “Functional pituitary adenomas pituitary glands have non-cancerous tumors that make more hormones. This makes the body’s hormone balance deteriorate. What kind of hormones make these tumors make the hormones of the body. Abnormal growth (acromegaly), weight gain and swelling on the face (cushing disease), and irregular periods (prolactinoma) with secretions from the breasts of women even when not pregnant. “

He further said, “Often these tumors are not detected in the initial stages, but if they are not treated quickly, then they can cause serious complications.”

PGIMER is a pioneer in treating and investigating such complex neuroendocrine diseases. Treatment at the right time can help patients recover completely and live a better life. Quick information is the key to rescue. Dr. Chhabra advised that people who see symptoms such as abnormal physical development, change in menstruation or weight gain without any reason, should meet a doctor to check hormone imbalance and pituitary diseases.
