Seoul, Sep 1 (IANS) South Korea has reported another case of lumpy virus. The agriculture ministry said the second case of LSD was confirmed on Saturday at a cattle farm in Icheon, Gyeonggi.
The owner of the cattle farm submitted the reports, Yonhap news agency quoted the ministry as saying. When officials tested them, four dairy cows were confirmed to be infected with the lumpy disease.
The first case of LSD in South Korea this year was confirmed on August 12. The infection was detected at a cattle farm in Anseong, about 65 km south of Seoul. The ministry said that to prevent further infection, the affected farm has been restricted. Also, arrangements have been made to quarantine the infected cattle.
According to the guidelines, infected cows will be culled. LSD is an infectious disease. It causes skin lesions, fever and loss of appetite. This affects milk production and further leads to death of cattle. It spreads among cattle through mosquitoes and other blood-sucking insects.
