Prayagraj, 26 January (IANS). In Mahakumbh 2025, five Jan Aushadhi Centers have been established in Mahakumbh Nagar to ensure the availability and awareness of cheap and quality medicines to pilgrims.
One of these is located in Kalagram under the Prime Minister of Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Project (PMBJP) of the Central Government.
These centers will be operational during the entire period of Mahakumbh Mela.
Ravi Dadhich, CEO of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Bureau of India (PMBI), Pharmaceutical Department, reviewed Jan Aushadhi Stall and other Jan Aushadhi Kendras in Prayagraj on Saturday.
He said that “people have to spend 50 to 90 percent less by buying medicines from Jan Aushadhi Kendras.”
During his visit, he discussed the utility and benefits of PMBJP with visitors and center operators.
The CEO further stated that 2,633 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are operated in Uttar Pradesh, out of which 62 centers are working in Prayagraj.
Under the Jan Aushadhi Yojana, more than 15,000 centers have been opened across the country, a target has been set to open 25,000 centers inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dadhich said, this year, the target of selling drugs through these centers is Rs 2,000 crore, out of which more than Rs 1,500 crore has already been sold.
He informed the devotees of Mahakumbh about the process of finding the nearest Jan Aushadhi Center through the PIN-Code based system and informed them about the availability of cheap medicines.
The scheme is being implemented through PMBI. Jan Aushadhi Kendras are special centers which provide quality medicines to the general public at cheaper prices.
In 2023-24, PMBI sold medicines worth Rs 1,470 crore under the Department of Pharmaceuticals.
