New Delhi, March 29 (IANS). The government has said that the Ministry of AYUSH is taking several initiatives to integrate AYUSH systems including Unani with modern medicine.
Union Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that the government has established the Central Unani Council of Unani Medical Research (CCRUM) in New Delhi (CCRUM) and National Institute of Unani Medical Medical Institute (NIUM) in Bangalore for education and research in Unani system of medicine.
It also includes the development of new drugs and their tests in a scientific way.
Jadhav said, “A 200 -bed hospital in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has also opened a branch of the National Institute of Unani Medical Institute. In addition, a total of 21 clinical institutes/units are working under CCRUM across the country.”
These clinical institutes/units provide treatment through general OPD, breeding and child health OPD, old age OPD, non-communicable disease clinics etc.
The Minister of State said, “Both CCRUM and NIUM have conducted research on several diseases, including arthritis, bronchial asthma, anemia, anxiety, depression, neuro-decentrality, lifestyle diseases such as high blood pressure, obesity, dyelipidemia, diameter, and skin diseases, etc.
To include AYUSH and Unani medical practices in the mainstream healthcare system in the country, CCRUM is providing health services through rehabilitation and expansion centers in several government hospitals. These centers have been established to make Unani treatment accessible and cheaper to the common people.
The CCRUM is running pre-noddian and clinical research, drug standardization, fundamental research and various research programs to make services accessible to the public.
Five mobile apps have been developed and the standard operating process (SOP) is being prepared on the treatment-beat Tadbir (IBT). Standard treatment guidelines have also been created for musculoskeletal disorders (diseases related to bone and muscles).
Other measures include AYUSH vertical under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), which is a special mechanism to plan, monitor and supervise public health schemes related to AYUSH.
Jadhav said that this department provides technical assistance to both ministries in making strategies for public health, healthcare, AYUSH education and training.
In addition, the Ministry of AYUSH and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have jointly established integrated AYUSH departments in the central government hospitals to promote integrated health care.
The integrated medical department has been established as a part of this initiative and is working at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, Safdarjung Hospital and Lady Harding Medical College, New Delhi.
The government has also adopted a strategy to install AYUSH facilities simultaneously in Primary Health Centers (PHC), Community Health Centers (CHC) and District Hospitals (DH), which will facilitate patients to opt for various medical systems at the same place.
