New Delhi, December 15 (IANS). More than 21 crore people are getting life insurance coverage under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY). This information was given by the Finance Ministry.
PMJJBY was launched by the government in May 2015. This is a term life insurance plan. Under this, if the insured person dies due to any reason, an amount of Rs 2 lakh is paid to his family members.

The post further said that till October 20, there have been more than 21.67 crore registrations in the scheme and 8,60,575 claims worth cumulatively Rs 17,211.50 crore have been received.
Any person between 18 to 50 years can register in this scheme. Under this, insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh is available in case of death due to any reason. For this, a premium of Rs 436 has to be paid annually.
The Finance Ministry also provided the financial review for the year 2024 in respect of other schemes like Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
The ministry said around 48 crore individuals have registered under the PMSBY scheme, which provides accident insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh.
According to official data, 47.59 crore people have been registered in PMSBY till November 20, while the cumulative number of claims received was 1,93,964. At the same time, the cumulative number of claims distributed was 1,47,641.
The ministry said that more than 53.13 crore bank accounts have been opened under PMJDY.
The ministry further informed that about 55.6 per cent (29.56 crore) Jan-Dhan account holders are women and 66.6 per cent (35.37 crore) Jan-Dhan accounts are in rural and semi-urban areas.
