New Delhi, 9 April (IANS). People take various measures to get relief from strong sunlight, heat and sweat problems during the summer season. In Ayurveda and traditional medicine, sandalwood is considered to be the best natural element. Recent research has found that sandalwood not only provides coolness to the skin, but also helps in reducing mental stress. Sandalwood is the Sanskrit word, which means ‘pleasing’ or ‘he who pleases’. Along with the scientist, it also has religious significance.
According to the research gate’s December 2012 research, sandalwood has antiseptic and antiinflammatory properties that protect the skin from infection. It is very beneficial to use sandalwood powder in summer with rose water as a face pack. It not only cools the skin, but also relieves tanning, rashes and acne.
There is a high risk of heatstroke in summer. Researchers believe that sandalwood paste helps in keeping body temperature balanced. By applying sandalwood paste on the back, chest or forehead, the body gets cold and the possibility of heatstroke is reduced.
According to the study of an Ayurveda Institute in Bangalore, the fragrance of sandalwood calms the brain and reduces mental stress. Mental fatigue and irritability are common in summer season. In such a situation, if sandalwood oil is used as aromatherapy, it helps to calm the mind.
Under another traditional use, the use of sandalwood water is also considered extremely effective. By dissolving sandalwood powder in water and bathing, the body gets cold and relieves the rashes caused by heat.
Experts say that sandalwood should be used in natural form. Chemicals may be found in artificial sandalwood products found in the market, which can damage the skin. Pure sandalwood powder or oil should be used only.
Research makes it clear that sandalwood is an impressive and safe remedy in summer. It not only relieves the skin and body, but also mentally relaxed. If it is used in correct and pure form, the side effects of heat can be avoided to a great extent.
Sandalwood also has religious significance. It is mentioned in mythological texts. It is considered Maha Bhagwat and the best Vaishnava. The reason for which is only one, it is that it becomes a fragrant and cool paste for God by decaying (wearing) of its body. On this sacrifice, God holds it in his forehead and Shri Aang. Sandalwood paste is also applied on Lord Shiva and Vishnu.
Sandalwood tilak is usually applied on the frontal between the eyebrows. Actually, this is the area that controls the seven cycles of the brain. It is considered the center of human intelligence. During the worship, when we apply tilak on the foreheads of the gods, it is believed that their divine energies are attracted and positive energy is communicated.
