New Delhi, December 16 (IANS). Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy has once again appealed to the youth to work hard for the development of the country, reiterating the importance of working 70 hours a week.
Murthy was the first to suggest the idea of working for 70 hours in the year 2023 to promote the development of the country. Although many people and some doctors criticized it, it was also appreciated by many people including Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal.
Murthy recently said at an event in Kolkata that the young generation should realize that they “have to work hard and work towards making the country number one”. He stressed the need for Indians to strive for excellence.
Narayana Murthy, in conversation with RPSG Group Chairman Sanjiv Goenka at the centenary celebrations of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, said, “At Infosys, I had said that we will be the best and will compare ourselves with the best global companies. Once we compare ourselves with the best from global companies, I can tell you that we Indians have a lot to do”.
He further said that we have to keep our aspirations high because 80 crore Indians get free ration. This means that 80 crore Indians are in poverty. If we are not in a position to work hard, then who will work hard?
Murthy said he “realized that a country can fight poverty only if it creates jobs that provide disposable income. There is no role for the government in entrepreneurship”.
He stressed that entrepreneurs play an important role in nation building by creating wealth and employment.
Taking his point forward he said, “Entrepreneurs build the nation because they create employment opportunities, they create wealth for their investors and they pay taxes. Therefore, if a country adopts capitalism If it is, it will create good roads, trains and good infrastructure.”
Narayana Murthy’s comments come amid concerns over stress faced by young Indians in the workplace, which results in many losing their lives.
Health experts have also warned of the serious consequences of working long hours which can not only be detrimental to the physical and mental health of employees, but can also have a serious impact on their personal and social relationships.
