New Delhi, 7 May (IANS). Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said that for better preparation and response during disasters, the health sector needs to be sensitive about fire safety measures.
JP Nadda was inaugurating the second national workshop organized on the subject of ‘disaster preparation and reaction of the health sector’ and ‘Fire Protection in Health Services’ in Delhi.
The Health Minister insisted that employees working in all government and private hospitals, primary health centers and other health institutions should be trained and aware to deal with fire and disaster.
He said that hospitals contain heavy machines and oxygen and other chemicals that save lives on the one hand but can catch fire very quickly. Therefore, it is very important to deal with them carefully.
Nadda warned that if we are careless about the preparation of disaster and fire, it gradually ignores and eventually causes accidents.
The workshop was organized by the Disaster Management Unit of the Union Ministry of Health in collaboration with the disaster nodal officers of states and union territories under ‘Fire Safety Week’.
The Health Minister said that we should focus on preparations before disasters so that health services will continue without stopping, and we should be ready for any untoward.
He said that not only the officers sitting in high positions, but also employees and health workers working at the ground level should understand this responsibility and increase each other’s confidence.
Nadda said that this workshop is not only for government hospitals, but also for private hospitals, nursing homes, delivery centers, Ayushman Arogya temples and all other health institutions.
Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava said that we should make a habit of preparation to prevent fire and deal with disaster in health institutions and should also practice by planning from time to time.
He said that at the time of disaster, hospitals are a ray of hope for the people, so the disaster management system of hospitals is very important.
