Mumbai, 2 February (IANS). Gillian-Baire syndrome (GBS) cases are continuously increasing in Maharashtra. There is an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among the people from GBS. Meanwhile, the Health Department on Sunday released a recent report on suspected GBS cases.
According to this report of the Health Department, so far 158 suspected GBS patients have been found in the state, out of which 127 patients have been classified as confirmed GBS cases. In addition, 5 suspected deaths have also been recorded.
According to the Health Department, 9 new suspicious cases of GBS have been reported. Out of GBS affected patients, 38 have been discharged from the hospital, while 48 patients are in ICU and 21 patients are on ventilator.
According to the department, there are 83 suspected patients from Pune Metropolitan Corporation area. There are 31 suspected patients from Pune Municipal Corporation area, 18 suspected patients from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and 18 suspected patients from Pune rural areas. Apart from this, there are 8 suspected patients from other districts.
State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had asked the administration to make special arrangements in government hospitals for the treatment of patients on 29 January. During the presentation given by the Public Health Department in the cabinet meeting, he reviewed the current ground level situation about GBS.
In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, it was said that GBS patients are being treated, but they have directed that patients should get proper treatment, special arrangements should be made in government hospitals. Treatment of this disease is included in the State Health Insurance Scheme Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana. If any other process is needed, it should be done by the Public Health Department.
