New Delhi, 23 May (IANS). In Ayurveda, Nirgundi is considered a miraculous medicine. In Sanskrit it means “protecting the body from diseases”. This plant is commonly found across India, especially up to a height of 1,500 meters and in the outer areas of the Himalayas. Nirgundi leaves brings specific odor and are prominent species with blue and white flowers. It has two main types: five or three leaves and only three leaves.
In Ayurvedic texts such as Charak Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, Nirgundi is known for poisonous and anthelmintic properties. It balances vata and phlegm defects, reduces pain, and destroys swelling, wounds, and bacteria. It is also beneficial in increasing appetite, improving digestion, keeping liver healthy, and menstrual problems. Additionally, it is also effective in diseases such as typhoid fever, itching, dry cough, and ears.
There are many medicinal uses of Nirgundi. For headache, taking two to four grams of fruit powder with honey or applying leaves is relieved. In the problem of ear flowing, adding one or two drops made from the juice of its leaves is beneficial. It is beneficial for throat pain and mouth ulcers with boiled water of its leaves. 10 ml for stomach problems Taking leaves juice, black pepper, and parsley increases digestive power. In typhoid, it is advisable to take its powder with Harad and Gomutra for increased liver and spleen.
For the irregularity of menstruation in women, taking powder of Nirgundi seeds in the morning and evening is beneficial. Taking a decoction of its leaves or root powder with sesame oil in sciatica and arthritis provides relief in pain. Applying paste or oil of its leaves in sprain, swelling, and skin diseases such as eczema and ringworm is effective. Consuming its decoction in fever like malaria and pneumonia is beneficial.
Nirgundi is also used in children’s teeth, removing physical weakness, and skin problems. The quantity of its juice is 10-20 ml. And it is advisable to take three to six grams of powder per day. This plant is a symbol of health and treatment in Ayurveda, which naturally gives the power to fight against diseases.
