Fatty Liver
Earlier it was believed that fatty liver is an elderly disease, but now this situation is spreading rapidly among the youth of India. This is now becoming a serious public health problem. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is now called metabolic dysfunction-assigned steetotic liver disease (MASLD) in Medical Science. This problem is no longer limited to obesity or diabetes. It is also spreading rapidly among people with young, thin and common BMI.
A study done by the University of Hyderabad found that more than 80% of professionals working in the IT region are suffering from MASLD. Of these, 71% of obesity victims and 34% metabolic syndrome were found. Dr. Ankur Garg, Director, Liver and GI Disease, Akash Healthcare says, “This is a wakeup call. If there is no treatment in time, this condition can become non-alcoholic steethaepatitis (nash), fibrosis, cirrhosis or liver cancer. So know what to do for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease?
These serious symptoms appear:
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease gradually accumulates fat in the liver. Initially no symptoms appear, which makes it difficult to identify timely. By the time the signs of tiredness, stomach heaviness or weight loss, the damage has been done by then the damage has been done.
Causes of fatty liver
Experts believe that sitting for a long time, not exercising and processed food is the main reason for accumulating fat in the liver. Dr. Ankur Garg says, “The sedentary life reduces insulin sensitivity, which increases insulin resistance – this is the biggest cause of fatty liver.
Mental health is also in danger:
New research suggests that fatty liver disease, especially when it reaches a critical condition, can also affect the brain. Liver’s job is to remove toxic elements from the body. When the liver becomes weak, toxins such as ammonia reach the brain and affect the mental state.
This is how to protect:
Experts recommend that the liver function test be included in routine health checkup, especially for those who are at risk. If the youth do 30 minutes of exercise daily, abstain from processed food and take food containing fiber, then fatty liver can be avoided. Along with this, public awareness campaign should also be run on this subject.
