Patients suffering from uterine cancer are not being investigated properly: Study

गर्भाशय कैंसर से पीड़ित मरीजों की ठीक से नहीं हो पा रही जांच : अध्ययन

New Delhi, 11 June (IANS). According to a new study, patients suffering from uterine cancer are not being properly investigated for a genetic condition called lynch syndrome. This condition increases the risk of uterus and intestinal cancer in patients.

Lynch syndrome affects 1 in 300 people, but only 5 percent of people have awareness about it.

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh say that it is very important to detect lynch syndrome. This is because it can take steps to reduce the risk of cancer. This not only improves their health, but also reduces the cost of treatment.

According to research published in BMG Oncology Journal, more than 2,500 cases of uterine cancer were studied between 2022 and 2023 in UK and Ireland.

Research revealed that 91 percent of the tumor’s lynch syndrome was examined, but the results of the investigation were often not told to the entire team of doctors. This means that further genetic counseling (genetic counseling) and blood test (blood test) could not be arranged. Two-thirds of the patients who needed genetic counseling were sent for this. But due to the long waiting list, only 48 percent of the patients were examined.

Due to this deficiency in the investigation, many uterine cancer patients with lynch syndrome are not detected, due to which there is a risk of intestinal cancer in them.

Dr. Neel Ryan, Clinical Lecturer of the Center for Reproductive Health, University of Edinburgh, said, “Despite the good rate of clean guidelines (guidelines) and tumor probes, many women with lynch syndrome are still not able to know because they are not being sent for blood tests on time. It is economical when we know the disease. We have to reach this investigation as soon as possible. “

Researchers say that initial identity can take measures such as aspirin and regular check -up (such as colonoscopy) or hysterctomy, which reduce the risk of cancer in the future.
