PCOS also puts an impact on women's brain: study

New Delhi, 26 May (IANS). Polycystic ovary syndrome ie PCOS is a common disease that affects women’s hormones. It can affect not only on the body, but also on the brain. Scientists at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay found in a new study that PCOS can weaken women’s focus and weaken the ability to think.

PCOS usually complains of irregular periods, the formation of small rasaulis and lumps in the ovary, growth of male hormones (androgens).

Some earlier research found that women suffering from PCOS are stressed, while this new study has detected the necessary mental state of ‘focused’. The study saw that women struggling with PCOS focus on focusing. Lack of attention can affect their ability to think, understand and remember any information.

Maitreyi Redkar and Professor Azizuddin Khan, who worked at the psychophiology laboratory in IIT Bombay, studied two groups of women. It included 101 women suffering from PCOS and 72 fully healthy women.

The team examined the hormones of women from both groups before starting the study. After this, he got all the women ‘some activities related to focusing’. During this time he found that women suffering from PCOS were reacting late compared to healthy women. Their attention used to wander quickly.

The study found that when women with PCOS were given a focus test, they took 50 percent more time to respond and made about 10 percent more mistakes.

Professor Khan, who led the study, said, “This experiment is based on a test that also measures very small time i.e. milliseconds how and how quickly a person reacts to a particular signal.” These small differences that we are usually unable to notice show the huge deficiency. This deficiency can also affect our ability to work in daily life. ”

Researchers reported that there is a hormone imbalance in PCOS, which can increase the time to react by reducing the vigilance of our brain. The level of Androgen increases in women with PCOS, and they are also insulin resistance. This insulin resistance can also affect the ability to focus.

Being insulin resistance means that if the body is unable to digest glucose properly, the cells of the brain also get less energy. When the cells of the brain do not work properly, our ability to focus and think becomes weak.

The effect of PCOS affects the mental state.

Researchers said that when the attention is not able to be properly on many tasks, our memory becomes weak. If it becomes weak, everyday work becomes difficult.
