Mumbai, May 28 (IANS). Actress Kareena Kapoor spoke openly on periods on ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day’. Through the posts shared on social media, the actress said that in fact periods are not a problem, but it is a lack of awareness.
Sharing the pictures on Instagram, the actress praised Gujarat schools and wrote, “Menstrual corners have now been created in Gujarat schools, which are safe and welcome initiative, where students know and learn about periods through card games, roll-play-play, interactive models and books.”
Kareena further wrote, “The government, along with UNICEF India, has placed a game-changing initiative in schools, which is breaking old beliefs and helping to normalize the conversation about menstruation. With more than 1,03,000 girls and 88,000 boys, it is not only raising awareness, but is also making confidence and respect.”
Kareena further wrote in the post, “Periods friendly world, let’s keep supporting open conversation and safe environment for every student. Menstruation matters.”
Prior to Kareena Kapoor, actress Sandipa Dhar told that every small step matters. In such a situation, we should talk openly about menstruation.
Earlier, Nimrat Kaur had said about periods hygiene that menstruation is an essential, natural and important part of any woman’s health. Still it is wrapped in silence. People do not talk about this, girls feel hesitant, especially in backward areas. Dividing things related to menstruation in these places will benefit. I hope that this effort not only fulfills the lack of basic things of life, but also ensures normalizing the interaction about periods.
